Tips To Store coffee beans to keep them fresh for longer

If you own or run a coffee shop, or if you just like to have fresh beans at home when you wake up in the morning, there are a few things that you should know about storing your coffee beans. If you do not store your coffee beans the right way, then they will just lose their freshness and strength and it will feel like you aren’t getting enough of a boost in your day and your coffee quality will drop down majorly. But you can prevent any beans from losing their taste by storing them the right way and keeping them fresh, here is how you can do that.

Hold off on opening up your beans until you know you are going to need them

Coffee beans are a lot like cheese, they can stay fresh forever but once you break that seal, you have to use it within a certain amount of time so that it tastes good and you get something out of it. So if you are at the bottom of your current bag, finish it off before you open the new one. Unless you are a coffee drinker throughout the entire day and you know that you will use a lot of beans this week, don’t open it until it’s necessary.

Keep them sealed after opening

Coffee beans come in all kinds of packaging but most of the time, when you are buying from the store, they will come in plastic bags with zip tie locks. This works to help keep freshness, but it is not keeping them fresh for long. You roughly have a few days to maybe a week before it starts to taste bland. Put your beans in an airtight ziplock bag and keep them in a safe place, which is what we’ll talk about in the next tip.

Finding something to put your beans in is one thing

It can be a hard task, but usually, you just throw your beans into an airtight bag and you are good to go with all the beans your heart desires. But finding a place to store the bag is another challenge entirely. First, you should know that beans like to be in a cool environment. This means that you should not be placing the beans near any sort of heated appliances, or it will just make the beans not as effective. However, this doesn’t mean that you should be putting them in the refrigerator or freezer, either. Put your beans somewhere cool but not cold, like a cabinet or a part of your kitchen that doesn’t get any direct sunlight and avoids the area where your stove or microwave sits.

On that note, it is possible to freeze your coffee beans to make them last longer. But you have to make sure that the beans are truly airtight or they will become freezer burnt. And when it’s time for refills, then you should remove the required amount quickly and then place the beans back into the freezer so that there is no condensation.

Do these things, and your beans should remain fresh for a long longer than they are staying fresh now. But if all else fails, you can always buy more coffee beans online. Many places sell it and if you choose the right one, then you don’t even have to worry about how much it will cost. Buying in bulk is a much better deal in the long run, but if smaller bags work for you, then they also have small options available for you.
